Disappearin’ Railroad Blues

VERSE
Sister Susie’s sittin’ on a stump
Waitin’ on the sky to fall
Tellin’ me I oughta be ashamed
Of drinkin’ whiskey before dark
We start walkin’ them rails til a freight train
Comes rumblin’ along
She says  “One of these days, you’re gonna catch your death
Chasin’ trains and carryin’ on”
We’ll walk down by the river
With holes in both our shoes
Watch that Western Pacific roll
We got them disappearin’ railroad blues

VERSE
The train rolls by at 2:05
On up in the mornin’
I’m usually down by the river with Susie
Listenin’ to her and the train whistle
Moanin’....Mmmh, cryin’ out them blues
……. Ooh, ooh, ooh
She'll wake up as she’s leavin’
She’s all I’ve got to lose
I sure hate to see her go
She’s got them disappearin’ railroad blues

VERSE
Well it’s goodbye muddy river
Won’t be seeing you for so long
I’m hoppin’ this rail to Texas
And I won’t be back no more
Sister Susie’s been gone for a month of Sunday’s
I guess she’s gone for good

I never thought I’d ever leave
Our little camp out in the woods
But I’m Dallas bound with the hammer down
Wish they’d let me shovel that coal
These disappearin’ railroad blues
I guess they ain’t ever gonna let go
